eparture",
the art of an expert craftsman, is an exclusively
French technique that has been used since the
18th century as a means of adding extra detailing
to a work of art.
Using traditionnal tools, the technique consists
of chisel-cutting into a thickness of barely
more than 1/8th inch of a mixture comprising
rabbit-skin glue and whiting, called gesso.
Ateliers Gohard are one of the only companies
left in the world still able to work in this
technique.
